Welcome to Freedom through Faith.
Speaker A:Prepare to be blessed.
Speaker A:As pastor and teacher, Robert Thibodeau leads us into the anointed study of the Word of God, teaching and empowering you how to impact your world with the gospel of Jesus Christ, teaching you how to receive the blessings and provisions of God.
Speaker A:And how to walk through this life with freedom through faith.
Speaker B:And now, hello everyone everywhere.
Speaker B:Pastor Bob Thibodeau here.
Speaker B:Welcome Freedom through Faith.
Speaker B:Glory to God.
Speaker B:It is such a blessing to be with you again today.
Speaker B:Hallelujah.
Speaker B:Jesus is Lord.
Speaker B:He's on his throne in heaven.
Speaker B:He's given us the authority to rule in this earth.
Speaker B:And this is just a great opportunity just to declare to the whole world exactly what Jesus said.
Speaker B:Hallelujah.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Let's go to the Lord with a word of prayer and we'll get started, get started in today's Bible study.
Speaker B:Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, we just praise you for the blessings you've given to us.
Speaker B:We thank you and praise you for taking care of our every need.
Speaker B:We thank you, Father, for Jesus, Lord Jesus.
Speaker B:We thank you for your word.
Speaker B:We thank you that you were the Word made flesh.
Speaker B:You were the truth made life.
Speaker B:And now you've given us your truth and your life that we may share it with others through this Internet that you've made available to us to share the gospel with the world.
Speaker B:We pray, Father, that we are led by your Holy Spirit this day.
Speaker B:And we thank you, Jesus, that you are honored and glorified by all that is said and done.
Speaker B:And Father, we pray all this in Jesus name.
Speaker B:Amen and Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Join me in our profession of faith, commonly referred to as the Lord's Prayer.
Speaker B:And you take this From Matthew, chapter 6, verses 9 through 13.
Speaker B:We want to do this just to honor Jesus for who he really is.
Speaker B:And to bless our Heavenly Father for him.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Just repeat these words with me.
Speaker B:Repeat it out loud.
Speaker B:At least loud enough for your own two ears to hear.
Speaker B:Because faith comes by hearing.
Speaker B:Hearing by the word of God.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Let's pray.
Speaker B:Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Speaker B:Thy kingdom come, Thine will be done in this earth just as it is in heaven.
Speaker B:Give us this day our daily bread.
Speaker B:And forgive us of all our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Speaker B:And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from all evil.
Speaker B:Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever in Jesus name.
Speaker B:Amen and Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Now we are going to be going to the next message today in Our book, what Did Jesus Say?
Speaker B:Seven Messages from the Master.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Folks, if you haven't got your hands on this book yet, you need to get it.
Speaker B:This book revolutionized our ministry.
Speaker B:I mean, it just made everything so clear.
Speaker B:There's nothing in here but the red letter words of Jesus.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:There's no commentary, no personal opinions.
Speaker B:Just what did Jesus say?
Speaker B:Matter of fact, that's the title.
Speaker B:What did Jesus say?
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:We were going through these messages, and today we're on message number five.
Speaker B:And we're going to be talking today.
Speaker B:I've titled this the Anticipation of Heaven's Truth.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:So, I mean, we.
Speaker B:I don't want to run out of time, so we're just going to jump right into this.
Speaker B:Let's return to our setting, okay?
Speaker B:Remember, we're imagining we're in the crowd just waiting for Jesus to appear.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:And remember, picture you were there.
Speaker B:Picture you're there sitting in the crowd with Jesus.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:And you know, the air this morning is just say different.
Speaker B:The word had already spread through the nearby villages.
Speaker B:Jesus was in the area again.
Speaker B:And as usual, the crowd was gathering long before sunrise, pressing closer and closer towards the hillside where they knew he would often go to teach.
Speaker B:Mothers, you know, clutching their children's hands.
Speaker B:Fishermen pulling out their boats early because they want to hear this, too.
Speaker B:Even some Roman guards, you know, were lingering at a distance, pretending not to listen, saying they were there because of the crowd, but they were completely transfixed by what they were hearing, too.
Speaker B:Everybody wanted to hear what Jesus might say this time.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:I mean, there was a hunger in the atmosphere, not just for healing, though many came, they did come for that.
Speaker B:Not just for deliverance or miracles, although they followed Jesus everywhere he went.
Speaker B:No, there was a spiritual hunger.
Speaker B:A spiritual hunger that had been stirred up because people had questions.
Speaker B:Deep, deep questions.
Speaker B:Why are we here?
Speaker B:What happens after this life?
Speaker B:What's God really like?
Speaker B:And how do we come right with God?
Speaker B:I mean, these are questions we still ask today.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Now, Jesus, you know, the one who speaks like no other, he was going to address this head on.
Speaker B: this is just some story from: Speaker B:All right?
Speaker B:This message we're about to explore comes directly from the book.
Speaker B:As I said.
Speaker B:What did Jesus say?
Speaker B:Seven messages from the master, you know, written by my dear friend and brother in Christ, Reverend Terry, a Christian.
Speaker B:All right?
Speaker B:This book, and more importantly, these words of Jesus, they basically rocked my world and reset my entire Ministry Focus.
Speaker B:You know, I've been preaching for years.
Speaker B:You know, teaching, training, pastoring, podcasting.
Speaker B:I spent time in front of microphones and, and behind pulpits and on stages.
Speaker B:In front of thousands.
Speaker B:Minister even from the stages where thousands were down to ministering.
Speaker B:One on one parks and on the street.
Speaker B:But when I read these seven red letter messages, you know, really sat with them, something completely shifted in me.
Speaker B:I realized I've been spending too much time talking about Jesus and not enough time letting just Jesus talk for himself.
Speaker B:He doesn't need my help in that.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Maybe you can raise your hands on that one.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:His words aren't just better.
Speaker B:His words are perfect.
Speaker B:His words are life.
Speaker B:And again, that's why I've joined forces with Reverend Terry.
Speaker B:Help to bring these messages.
Speaker B:Help to bring these messages.
Speaker B:This book, which is now sparking a movement, and we're bringing these messages to the.
Speaker B:To the world, Lord.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Hallelujah.
Speaker B:We call it the Red Letter Crusade.
Speaker B:And it's more than a series.
Speaker B:This is a mission to bring the church, the whole body of Christ, back to the one voice that truly matters, to heal the divisions, to heal the divides and all of the controversy.
Speaker B:Denominations, folks no longer matter.
Speaker B:Churches that try to outdo each other in the same town, they no longer matter.
Speaker B:The only thing that matters is to finally understand the answer to a question everybody was asking just a few years ago.
Speaker B:Remember the WWJD phrase that everyone was going through?
Speaker B:What would Jesus do?
Speaker B:Well, we finally have the answer.
Speaker B:It's right here.
Speaker B:What would Jesus do?
Speaker B:Find the answer.
Speaker B:And what did Jesus say?
Speaker B:Hey, man.
Speaker B:As simple as that.
Speaker B:And that's what we've been studying these past several sessions now.
Speaker B:And today's message is number five.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:How?
Speaker B:Let's go back to that hillside that morning.
Speaker B:People are gathered in and pressing as close as they can get.
Speaker B:Now Jesus steps forward.
Speaker B:The chatter in the crowd just kind of dims down now to almost silence.
Speaker B:He's not wearing gold or sitting on a throne.
Speaker B:He doesn't need an introduction either.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:His presence speaks louder than anything else.
Speaker B:The disciples are right there nearby, attentive to what he's saying.
Speaker B:There's some scribes in the back that they're skeptical.
Speaker B:They're taking notes, not because they want to know about what he's talking about, but they're trying to catch them in something.
Speaker B:But no one, nobody there can deny the authority of his presence, nor the look in his eyes as he scans the crowd.
Speaker B:Every person feels as if he's Looking right at them individually, not just looking at them, he's looking in them, if that were possible.
Speaker B:Looking at their heart.
Speaker B:And then he begins to speak.
Speaker B:He's not speaking in riddles and not quoting some famous rabbis.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:He begins to teach with fire and compassion.
Speaker B:And what he's about to say is going to split the atmosphere wide open because he's going to talk about the kingdom of heaven.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Not a kingdom built with walls and gates, not the kind that Rome controls with swords and taxes, but a kingdom that lives in the heart.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:One that changes how you see things, how you live, how you love.
Speaker B:A kingdom that is right now, but yet not yet.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:One that just flips everything upside down and yet feels like the most natural right side up thing you've ever heard.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:He opens his mouth and drops a challenge.
Speaker B:Turn to Luke, chapter 13, verse 24.
Speaker B: Luke: Speaker B:And Jesus says, strive to enter the straight gate, the narrow gate.
Speaker B:Wait, what?
Speaker B:Strive?
Speaker B:What do you mean, strive?
Speaker B:The kingdom's not handed out like free bread.
Speaker B:I mean, we work, you just don't come.
Speaker B:There it is.
Speaker B:Now there's resistance in this.
Speaker B:He says, strat, there's an urgency in this.
Speaker B:You better believe it, folks.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Jesus isn't just entertaining a crowd, he's inviting them to eternity.
Speaker B:And guess what he says, not everyone's gonna make it at that.
Speaker B:The crowd leans in a little bit.
Speaker B:I mean, you could hear their minds being stretched, their hearts are pounding.
Speaker B:What?
Speaker B:What is this kingdom?
Speaker B:What do you mean?
Speaker B:Who?
Speaker B:Not everybody gets in.
Speaker B:Who?
Speaker B:Who gets in?
Speaker B:How do I know if I'm on the right path?
Speaker B:What if I think I'm in, but I'm not?
Speaker B:And that's the heartbeat of this entire session that we're going to be talking about today.
Speaker B:Because Jesus is about to walk us through the requirements, through the attitudes, through the warnings, the parables and the promises of the kingdom.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Hallelujah.
Speaker B:So not by the end of this message, you won't be able to say, I didn't know that.
Speaker B:You're not going to say.
Speaker B:You're not going to be able to say that.
Speaker B:By the time we finish it, you'll know exactly where you stand and more importantly, you'll know what to do next.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:So take a breath like I just did.
Speaker B:Praise, man.
Speaker B:Set your heart.
Speaker B:Let the distractions fall to the side.
Speaker B:Because right now the king is about to teach on his kingdom.
Speaker B:And just like on that hillside.
Speaker B:You and I are being called to listen, to obey, to choose again.
Speaker B: Luke: Speaker B:Strive to enter by the narrow gate.
Speaker B:The hush had fallen across that hillside.
Speaker B:Jesus had just declared, strive to enter through the narrow gate.
Speaker B:Not stroll, not casually walk through or consider these things, but strive.
Speaker B:The Greek word used there implies intensity, effort, even agony, like a runner straining for that finish line after a grueling 26 miles.
Speaker B:I've been there.
Speaker B:I know how hard that last mile is.
Speaker B:I know the kind of effort that takes.
Speaker B:And Jesus is talking here about that kind of striving, maximum effort.
Speaker B:Nothing else matters, not how you feel, not how you look, not how others are viewing you.
Speaker B:You only have one goal, to make it through that gate and across the finish line.
Speaker B:That's it.
Speaker B:That's all that matters in your entire existence at that moment.
Speaker B:And then he drops the bombshell.
Speaker B:For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and won't be able to.
Speaker B:Wait, wait, wait, wait.
Speaker B:What?
Speaker B:Many, many will not be able to enter.
Speaker B:That silence, that self righteous crowd.
Speaker B:It deflated the religious pride of those who thought their lineage and their bloodline and their rituals or their position in society guaranteed them entrance into heaven.
Speaker B:Folks, just let me be plain and blunt with you.
Speaker B:This message should do the same thing for us today, because Jesus isn't talking to pagans here.
Speaker B:He's not addressing the atheists and the unbelievers.
Speaker B:He's talking to, if you want to put it down like this.
Speaker B:He's talking to the church crowd.
Speaker B:Hello, you still with me?
Speaker B:He said, you can be close to me, you can hear my teachings.
Speaker B:You can go to church every Sunday and even perform ministry, and it's still possible for you to miss the kingdom.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker B:Then he turns it up even more.
Speaker B:From the turnover to Matthew, chapter 7, verse 21.
Speaker B:Let's flip over there.
Speaker B:Matthew 7, verse number 21.
Speaker B:Hallelujah.
Speaker B:He says here, not everyone that says to me, lord, Lord will enter into the kingdom of heaven, but only him who does the will of my Father who's in heaven.
Speaker B:And that should shake up every pulpit, every pew.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Every podcast host, every preacher, including the parishioners, praise God.
Speaker B:Saying the right words is not enough.
Speaker B:Singing the songs is not enough.
Speaker B:You can repeat all of the liturgies every single day, three times on Sundays, and it's still not enough.
Speaker B:Jesus being very clear here, it's not about lip service.
Speaker B:It's about life, alignment.
Speaker B:It's about obedience.
Speaker B:He even paints a future scene one that unfortunately, many people will be a part of.
Speaker B:He said, many will say to me in that day, lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in your name?
Speaker B:Didn't we drive out demons in your name?
Speaker B:Then we do all these miracles in your name.
Speaker B:His response will be, I never knew you depart from me, you who practice iniquity.
Speaker B:Wow, I don't know about you.
Speaker B:I never want to hear those words spoken to me.
Speaker B:Not after spending a lifetime in church, not after building ministries and platforms.
Speaker B:But according to what Jesus just said, none of that matters.
Speaker B:Hear me now.
Speaker B:None of that matters.
Speaker B:None of it.
Speaker B:Not one part of it matters.
Speaker B:Oh, it's good to do.
Speaker B:But it doesn't matter.
Speaker B:Because if he doesn't know you, not just know of you, but know you intimately, abiding in a relationship that he longs for with you.
Speaker B:And here's the mercy and what he's sharing here.
Speaker B:He's telling us this right now, right now, so we don't have to be surprised later when we would not be able to do anything about it.
Speaker B:Matthew, chapter 9, verse 3 13.
Speaker B:Jesus offers a course correction for us.
Speaker B:He says, I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Speaker B:See, this whole kingdom message isn't just about warning the hypocrites.
Speaker B:It's about inviting the humble.
Speaker B:He came for those who would just truthfully admit, I know I don't have it all together.
Speaker B:I know I need a Savior because I can't do it on my own.
Speaker B:I know I need to turn away from my ways and follow his ways.
Speaker B:So let me ask you, is he speaking this to you right now?
Speaker B:I know he's speaking to me.
Speaker B:Pastor Bob's raising his right hand right here.
Speaker B:But then he paints a picture of his joy when just one, just one of us does exactly that.
Speaker B:He says, suppose you have a hundred sheep and lose one of them.
Speaker B:Doesn't they leave the 99 in the open country and go after the one lost sheep until he finds it?
Speaker B:That's in Luke 15, verses 4 through 6, 7, something like that.
Speaker B:And when he finds it, when he finds you lost, separated from him, he lifts you up on his shoulders and celebrates with you.
Speaker B:He rejoices over you more than over the 99 who didn't wander away.
Speaker B:Folks, that's the Father's heart.
Speaker B:That's the kingdom call.
Speaker B:This isn't about exclusion.
Speaker B:It's about rescue.
Speaker B:But it's up to you to respond.
Speaker B:You have to repent for living the way you want to live.
Speaker B:Your way, not his way.
Speaker B:And repentance just doesn't mean oh, I'm sorry about that.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:Repentance is a decision, a turning, a surrender.
Speaker B:So let me ask you right now, are you walking the wide road of casual Christianity or the narrow road?
Speaker B:The narrow path of radical obedience.
Speaker B:Because one who lead, the one leads to destruction, the other leads to life.
Speaker B:So let me make it as plain as I can for you.
Speaker B:The wide road says, I can live how I want.
Speaker B:Jesus will understand.
Speaker B:As long as I believe in God, I'm good.
Speaker B:My good always outweighs my bad.
Speaker B:The narrow road says, not my will, but yours be done.
Speaker B:Search me, Lord.
Speaker B:Cleanse anything in me that's unclean.
Speaker B:I want to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
Speaker B:And that's why Jesus doesn't just invite us to admire him.
Speaker B:He calls us to follow him.
Speaker B:So right there in this section of the message, Jesus is drawing a line in the sand.
Speaker B:The kingdom of heaven is not for the casual observer, the casual believer, but the committed disciple.
Speaker B:Not for those who just check a box on Sunday, but for those who yield their lives fully to him.
Speaker B:And folks, that's not something to fear.
Speaker B:That's something to celebrate.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Because while the gate is narrow, it's open.
Speaker B:It's open.
Speaker B:The gates open.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:And the one who guards it, he's full of mercy.
Speaker B:He wants you inside.
Speaker B:He died to make that way.
Speaker B:But he also loves you too much to try and take away, to allow you to fake your way through it, only to be expelled later.
Speaker B:He loves you too much to do that when it'd be too late to do anything about it.
Speaker B:Folks, the kingdom of heaven is real, and the time is now.
Speaker B:The invitation has been extended.
Speaker B:Will you strive?
Speaker B:Will you surrender?
Speaker B:Will you step onto the narrow road and follow the one who calls you by name?
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:I mean, when you enter the kingdom, you become born again and childlike.
Speaker B:And Jesus continues this in his teaching.
Speaker B:This time, he wasn't speaking in parables anymore.
Speaker B:Metaphors.
Speaker B:He.
Speaker B:He's being direct with this crowd, blunt even.
Speaker B:And he started with a phrase that still shakes religious tradition to this day.
Speaker B:John, chapter three.
Speaker B:Let's turn over there.
Speaker B:John, chapter three, verse three.
Speaker B:I want you to put your eyes on this.
Speaker B:John, chapter three, verse three.
Speaker B:Verily, verily, I say to you, unless a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Speaker B:There it is.
Speaker B:There's no confusion in that verse.
Speaker B:There's no conditions based on your heritage, your denomination, or your morality for that matter, to enter the kingdom, you must be born again.
Speaker B:Period.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:To go through that narrow gate, you must be born again.
Speaker B:Now, that phrase has been misunderstood and misused for generations.
Speaker B:For some, has become a slogan, for others, a theological debate.
Speaker B:But for Jesus, it's non negotiable and he doubled down.
Speaker B:Keep reading.
Speaker B:In verse number six, truly, truly, I say to you, unless one's born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Speaker B:He can't get through the narrow gate.
Speaker B:Which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Speaker B:Now let me just pause there and unpack that a little bit.
Speaker B:We're all born once from the flesh.
Speaker B:That's your natural birth.
Speaker B:But Jesus is talking here about a spiritual birth, a rebirth that changes not your clothes or your habits, changes your very nature.
Speaker B:You become a new creation.
Speaker B:You move from death to life, from darkness to light, from rebellion to sonship, and only the Holy Spirit can do that.
Speaker B:This is not self help.
Speaker B:This is not behavior modification.
Speaker B:This is a transformation.
Speaker B:You're not polishing up the old you, you're burying the old you and being raised new with Christ.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:But here's the beauty in Jesus teaching here.
Speaker B:After laying down the heavy truth of being born again, he immediately shifts the conversation to something tender and deeply relatable.
Speaker B:Children.
Speaker B:Matthew 18, 3, 4.
Speaker B:Let's turn over there.
Speaker B:Matthew 18, verse 3 and 4.
Speaker B:Praise the Lord.
Speaker B:Hallelujah.
Speaker B:Verily, verily, I say to you, lest you be converted, become as little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of God or the kingdom of heaven.
Speaker B:Whosoever therefore, shall humble himself as this little child, the same greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:So what are we saying here?
Speaker B:Well, Slug coffee here, it's not about having childish faith.
Speaker B:It's about having childlike trust.
Speaker B:That raw, unguarded, dependent faith says, father, I need you.
Speaker B:I believe you, and I'm not trying to run this on my own.
Speaker B:Now, in today's world, we celebrate independence.
Speaker B:We applaud those who make it on their own.
Speaker B:But in the kingdom of heaven, the ones who get in are those who come empty handed, just humble and dependent, full of wonder and awe.
Speaker B:Luke 8:17 echoes it again.
Speaker B:Truly, I say to you, Jesus said, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter the kingdom of God.
Speaker B:Folks, that cuts right through our pride.
Speaker B:Jesus isn't impressed with our resumes or our religious titles or our theological degrees.
Speaker B:He's looking for hearts that just say, abba, Father.
Speaker B:He's looking for childlike spirits that just want to run to him, not for what he can give, but just to be near him.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:And then, as if to make doubly sure that we truly understand this, Jesus turns to wealth.
Speaker B:A topic that would have hit his crowd just like it does our own today.
Speaker B:Luke 18, 24, 25.
Speaker B:He says how difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God.
Speaker B:It'd be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to try and enter the kingdom of God.
Speaker B:And that's been used for years to try to keep you poor.
Speaker B:Give your money to the church so it doesn't corrupt you.
Speaker B:That wasn't Jesus intent.
Speaker B:Don't misinterpret this.
Speaker B:Jesus is not condemning money.
Speaker B:What he's doing here, he's exposing idolizing money.
Speaker B:He's exposing idolatry, the kind that sneaks into our hearts and whispers, you don't need God.
Speaker B:You've got this firsthand.
Speaker B:You got this handled.
Speaker B:You don't need God anymore.
Speaker B:Wealth tends to basically foster a self reliance.
Speaker B:And if you're honest and looking at this, that's the exact opposite of having childlike faith, isn't it?
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Don't shut me down.
Speaker B:I'm preaching good now.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:This session with Jesus doesn't end there.
Speaker B:The disciples, just like us, they're being overwhelmed.
Speaker B:For many of them were successful businessmen.
Speaker B:So they ask, well, who then can be saved?
Speaker B:And Jesus turns them with love in his voice and he gives the answer we all need to hear.
Speaker B:With man, or in other words, on your own, it's impossible.
Speaker B:But it is possible with God.
Speaker B:I mean, there it is.
Speaker B:The kingdom is not earned, it's received.
Speaker B:The transformation is not made.
Speaker B:Man made it.
Speaker B:Holy Spirit empowered.
Speaker B:A childlike posture doesn't make you weak, it makes you ready.
Speaker B:You cannot.
Speaker B:And I know it's gonna make a bunch of you religious minded, tradition oriented, misguided folks, folks out there mad.
Speaker B:But hey, don't listen to Pastor Bob here.
Speaker B:Listen to Jesus.
Speaker B:He's laying it all out for you.
Speaker B:You cannot earn your way to heaven, Period.
Speaker B:You can only receive access to heaven.
Speaker B:And again, as we already learned, Jesus said, I am the only way.
Speaker B:So let me ask you folks, have you been born again?
Speaker B:Not are you attending church?
Speaker B:Not what denomination are you?
Speaker B:Not are you behaving morally?
Speaker B:Jesus asked just one question, Are you born again?
Speaker B:And guess what?
Speaker B:You can't lie to him.
Speaker B:You can't say, oh yeah, I attended catechism class back when I was 14 years old, I'm good to go.
Speaker B:Guess What?
Speaker B:That's the lie Pastor Bob believed for years.
Speaker B:Because I attended catechism class through the Lutheran Church back when I was 14 or 15 years old, something like that.
Speaker B:And when I was in the Army, I was not born again.
Speaker B:If you take your typical, let's say, stereotypical soldier attitude lifestyle, that was me, all right.
Speaker B:And when some friends would come up and they talk about Jesus, my response was, oh, yeah, I'm good to go.
Speaker B:Because, you know, I. I took my catechism class through the Lutheran Church, and I'm a member of the Lutheran Church.
Speaker B:I'm good.
Speaker B:Good to go.
Speaker B:Until I.
Speaker B:34, 35, right in that area, 36, that I realized I was not good to go.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Have you ever just dropped the pride and just reached up with childlike hands and, jesus, I need you?
Speaker B:That's what I had to do.
Speaker B:And I was desperate.
Speaker B:You don't need to be desperate.
Speaker B:Just that have faith.
Speaker B:But I was at the.
Speaker B:You know the old saying, you're at the bottom of the barrel.
Speaker B:I was under the barrel looking up.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:But when you react, like when you just say, jesus, I need you, that's when it's real.
Speaker B:Because when you do that, the impossible suddenly becomes possible, and that gate opens and the spirit moves.
Speaker B:And finances are not now coveted.
Speaker B:They're to be used for the kingdom.
Speaker B:And the kingdom of heaven is no longer just a concept to you.
Speaker B:It becomes your inheritance.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Hallelujah.
Speaker B:Now, let's look at a couple more parables here about wheat and weeds and hidden treasure.
Speaker B:Because as Jesus looked across this crowd and in his familiar style, he began to teach in parables.
Speaker B:And he gave a story layered with spiritual death, just for those willing to listen.
Speaker B:This one was about a field.
Speaker B:He said a man sowed some good seed in his field.
Speaker B:But while everyone was sleeping, the enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat.
Speaker B: Matthew: Speaker B:You can read about it.
Speaker B:He says, the kingdom of heaven is compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.
Speaker B:Remember, we already studied the parable of the sower before, from Mark 11, right?
Speaker B:So this man does what he's supposed to do.
Speaker B:He's sowing good seed into good ground, fully expecting a harvest.
Speaker B:He makes sure it's so.
Speaker B:But his enemy comes and sows weeds into his field on purpose.
Speaker B:The man did not do anything wrong.
Speaker B:He didn't do anything to deserve that.
Speaker B:But notice, God didn't stop the enemy either.
Speaker B:Oh, think about it.
Speaker B:Not many preachers will preach on that part, huh?
Speaker B:But if you think about the story of Job.
Speaker B:We find.
Speaker B:You keep reading the story about Job, you find out God didn't do it to punish Job.
Speaker B:He did this to bring Job to a revelation of the importance of serving God.
Speaker B:But he didn't do this to destroy Job.
Speaker B:He's not doing it to destroy you.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Don't shut me down.
Speaker B:I'm preaching good.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:When bad things happen, a lot of times it is because we've opened the door to the evil.
Speaker B:You could hear a pin drop if I was in an auditorium right now and said that.
Speaker B:But it's true.
Speaker B:Why would God allow bad things to happen to his children?
Speaker B:Why did God allow the enemy to sow into this good man's feet field?
Speaker B:Well, if you study the book of Job, you're going to find out it's to test the sower, to test the owner of the field.
Speaker B:Want to see that?
Speaker B:All right, let's keep reading.
Speaker B:Catch this.
Speaker B:The wheat and the weeds grow up together now.
Speaker B:And the servants, they notice the weeds and they ask, he wants to go pull him up.
Speaker B:And the mass said, no.
Speaker B:He told them to let both grow until the harvest.
Speaker B:Why?
Speaker B:I mean, couldn't you just individually go out there and say, pull up the weeds?
Speaker B:Just be careful you don't pull up the wheat.
Speaker B:And, you know, they take them some time.
Speaker B:They go in one by one.
Speaker B:Paul.
Speaker B:No, if they pulled up the weeds too soon, they uproot the wheat, too, because their roots are intermingled.
Speaker B:They're sharing the same ground.
Speaker B:The roots are all intertwined together.
Speaker B:So you pull up one, you pull up the other.
Speaker B:That sound familiar?
Speaker B:I mean, we look at the world around us, look at the church, and we can ask, why does God allow the evil to grow like this?
Speaker B:Why are there false believers among the true believers?
Speaker B:Why is this so messy?
Speaker B:Why doesn't God just do away with all the evil and be done with it?
Speaker B:Well, here's the answer.
Speaker B:God's patient.
Speaker B:Thank God he was patient.
Speaker B:Because for 33 years, I was always told I was impatient.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And if God wasn't patient, I be lost forever.
Speaker B:But God is patient.
Speaker B:And the kingdom of heaven is not just about power.
Speaker B:It's about the processes.
Speaker B:The wheat and the weeds are growing side by side.
Speaker B:But harvest time is coming.
Speaker B:Now, for those that never worked on a farm, you city folk out there, when harvest time comes, you don't go out and dig up everything and then take it back to the barn and shake out all the dirt and start separate.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:You got a harvester that goes through, and it chops off everything, you know, just, I'll say, two inches above ground.
Speaker B:All right, so the roots are in the ground, the wheat is now in the bin, and the weeds can be separated at point time a lot easier.
Speaker B:All right?
Speaker B:And that's what Jesus trying to emphasize here in Matthew 13.
Speaker B:If you read verses 41, 42, and 43, says, at the end of the age, the Son of man will send his angels.
Speaker B:They will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin, all the law breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace.
Speaker B:Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.
Speaker B:That's not just poetic language, folks.
Speaker B:That's a prophetic reality.
Speaker B:There will be a separation coming.
Speaker B:There will be, just to serve.
Speaker B:The kingdom may be hidden right now, but it will be revealed in all its glory then.
Speaker B:Right now, our roots are all intertwined with the evil around us.
Speaker B:But there will come a time when the hearts of every person will be revealed, unmistakably revealed.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:And what do we do in the meantime?
Speaker B:That's the question.
Speaker B:How do we live in a field full of weeds and confusion and corruption all around us?
Speaker B:Simple.
Speaker B:We hold fast to the truth.
Speaker B:We grow our roots deeper in the word.
Speaker B:We.
Speaker B:We keep our eyes on the harvest coming, because while evil may look like it's flourishing right now, its time is short.
Speaker B:But those who remain faithful will shine like the sun.
Speaker B:Then Jesus moves from agriculture to hunting treasure.
Speaker B: cribes the kingdom of Matthew: Speaker B:Let's turn over there.
Speaker B: Matthew: Speaker B:Praise God, he says again.
Speaker B:The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field which a man found and covered up.
Speaker B:And in his joy, he goes and sells everything he has just to buy that field.
Speaker B:Now don't miss that phrase.
Speaker B:In his joy, he wasn't reluctantly giving things up.
Speaker B:He was gladly selling everything he had.
Speaker B:House, goods, car, business, furniture, everything.
Speaker B:Because he wanted to get the money to go buy the field was worth much more than everything he had combined.
Speaker B:That's what the kingdom of heaven is like.
Speaker B:It's not a burden.
Speaker B:It's a breakthrough.
Speaker B:It's not about what you're losing, it's about everything you're gaining.
Speaker B:And folks, when you truly catch a glimpse of the kingdom, when you truly see it, you'll gladly trade anything and everything you have for it.
Speaker B:And Jesus continues this theme in the very next verse, verses 45 through 46.
Speaker B:I believe it is, he says, again, again.
Speaker B:The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls who Finding one pearl of great value, went and sold everything he had and went and bought it.
Speaker B:Folks, that's radical.
Speaker B:Jesus is radical.
Speaker B:The kingdom is not an accessory to your life.
Speaker B:It's not something that you fit in when it's convenient.
Speaker B:The kingdom is everything.
Speaker B:The kingdom is the treasure.
Speaker B:That's the point.
Speaker B:The kingdom is the pearl.
Speaker B:He said, if you want this, it's going to cost you.
Speaker B:It'll be worth it.
Speaker B:It'll be worth it in the end.
Speaker B:I mean, just pause here for a minute.
Speaker B:Some of you might be feeling that little tug right now.
Speaker B:You've been dabbling in the kingdom your whole life, but you, you never actually dove in.
Speaker B:You've been trying to stay in the wading pool.
Speaker B:And that board, into the deep, into the deep is calling you.
Speaker B:And you've never really jumped off that dive.
Speaker B:I remember the first time I went off a diving board in about 10ft of water.
Speaker B:It was scary.
Speaker B:And then I looked at that high diving board.
Speaker B:That thing is like 10 meters in the air.
Speaker B:Man, I gotta do that one.
Speaker B:I just gotta do it.
Speaker B:And I walked up to the end, and I'm looking way down there.
Speaker B:My body and my mind is like, turn your rear end around and get off this board.
Speaker B:You don't want to jump way down there.
Speaker B:You realize how, how that's gonna feel if you hit wrong and all these thoughts, right?
Speaker B:But when you take that plunge, and I did, I have to admit, I didn't dive.
Speaker B:I jumped and plugged my nose and closed my eyes and tried to be as straight as possible as I was going down.
Speaker B:Guess what I did after that?
Speaker B:Swam back to the side, climbed back up, went back up that board again.
Speaker B:Praise that, because once you take that plunge, you can't get enough of it.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God, folks, you've been aware of Jesus.
Speaker B:You may even say you love Jesus, but yet you've never gone all in for Jesus.
Speaker B:And maybe this is your moment.
Speaker B:Maybe this is your moment to say, jesus, you are the only treasure I need.
Speaker B:I've been chasing weeds, I've been setting, settling for pearls made of plastic.
Speaker B:But, Jesus, I want you.
Speaker B:Whatever it costs me, I want the real thing.
Speaker B:I want you, Jesus.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Because the truth is, the kingdom is not for the casual observer, is for the committed person, but to those who choose is such a joy.
Speaker B:It's not a job, it's a delight, not a duty, a reward that will echo into eternity.
Speaker B:I said, I remember when I was in the army and some conflict was erupting and some Troop said told me something to the effect of I didn't join the army to go to war.
Speaker B:I joined for the college benefits.
Speaker B:I looked at him like he's stupid.
Speaker B:Well, I shouldn't say that.
Speaker B:All right.
Speaker B:All right.
Speaker B:I did, though.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:I told him, when you signed your contract and raised your right hand, you swore an oath of allegiance to obey the order of the president and all officers appointed over you waived all your individual rights.
Speaker B:That college is a benefit to be paid out after your enlistment.
Speaker B:Now buckle up, soldier, and prepare.
Speaker B:Prepare to deploy.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:I probably used a few other choice words there because, like I said, I wasn't born again back then.
Speaker B:All right?
Speaker B:But that was, I guess you could say the gist of it.
Speaker B:Anyway, you got the point.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Where was I?
Speaker B:Oh, yeah.
Speaker B:Oh, yeah.
Speaker B:So what's your treasure?
Speaker B:What's your pearl?
Speaker B:What have you been holding on to that's keeping you from just going all in?
Speaker B:Maybe today's the day you let go of the counterfeit and take hold of the kingdom.
Speaker B:Let's keep going because Jesus isn't done and we're running out of time.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:I want to talk to you about the great separation, a final judgment and your eternal destiny.
Speaker B:Because as the crowd was hanging on every word Jesus said, Jesus delivered one of the most sobering parables of all time.
Speaker B:A divine warning wrapped in just a simple fishing story.
Speaker B:Matthew 13.
Speaker B:Keep reading.
Speaker B:We'll read verses 47 to 48.
Speaker B:He says again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown in the sea and gathered fish of every kind.
Speaker B:When it was full, men drew it ashore, sat down and sorted the good in the containers, but threw the bad away.
Speaker B:They didn't even put it back in the water.
Speaker B:Folks, that's the kingdom in motion.
Speaker B:A wide net cast without favoritism.
Speaker B:It gathers everyone, rich, poor, religious, rebellious, church to non church, pastors and prisoners, prophets and politicians, too.
Speaker B:Everyone swept in by the message of the gospel.
Speaker B:Everyone is drawn to Jesus at some point in time.
Speaker B:Hear me.
Speaker B:This is important.
Speaker B:Now, not everyone remains with Jesus because the net is just the beginning.
Speaker B:Jesus says there's a sorting that's going to come, and this is where it gets real.
Speaker B:He continues, he says, so will be at the end of the age.
Speaker B:The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw the evil into the fiery furnace.
Speaker B:In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Speaker B:Folks, we're not talking about parables anymore.
Speaker B:We're talking now about eternity.
Speaker B:This is where the Entire Bible is moving forward.
Speaker B:That's what it's all about.
Speaker B:The final reckoning, the judgment, the moment where every soul will stand naked before the throne of heaven.
Speaker B:Revelation 20, I think it's verse 11 on, paints the scene with terrifying clarity.
Speaker B:Then I saw a great white throne, him who was seated on it.
Speaker B:I saw the dead, great and small, standing before his throne.
Speaker B:And books were opened.
Speaker B:Uh oh.
Speaker B:The dead were judged by what was written in those books, according to what they had done.
Speaker B:And if anyone's name was not found in the book of life, that person was thrown into the lake of fire.
Speaker B:Again, that is not poetic imagery.
Speaker B:That is a guaranteed future.
Speaker B:That is a coming in reality.
Speaker B:Everyone, every single person listening to me right now, including me, will appear before the judgment seat of Christ.
Speaker B:And there will be no appeal process.
Speaker B:There will be no excuses accepted.
Speaker B:There's no hiding behind your theology or your denomination or your traditions.
Speaker B:You won't get to say but I went to church or I read some scriptures every now and then.
Speaker B:You won't, you can't say I, I gave to missions.
Speaker B:I.
Speaker B:You can't even.
Speaker B:You definitely can't say, I don't believe that way I believe we all get in.
Speaker B:Yeah, I'm sure there'll be some who say something to that effect of, you know, I thought, there are many ways to heaven.
Speaker B:What's all this?
Speaker B:All the religions point us towards God.
Speaker B:Jesus said, there's going to be one question, did you know Jesus?
Speaker B:And there's an even stronger question.
Speaker B:Does Jesus know you?
Speaker B:Well, praise God.
Speaker B: I got born again,: Speaker B:I walked the aisle when I was 12.
Speaker B:That was not the question.
Speaker B:Did you know Jesus?
Speaker B:And does Jesus know you?
Speaker B:For those who insist it's yes to each one, then the next question is then asked, did you obey his word?
Speaker B:That's where some heads will have to hang in shame.
Speaker B:That's the sorting folks.
Speaker B:Not just belief, but obedience.
Speaker B:Not just religious activity, but kingdom loyalty.
Speaker B:Not just lip service, but his service.
Speaker B:Jesus makes this crystal clear.
Speaker B:Matthew 7, verses 21, 23 says, not everyone who says to me, lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, only the one who does the will of my Father.
Speaker B:For them, I will declare to them.
Speaker B:For those who said that they know him but never did what he said, he said, for those I will declare to them, depart from me.
Speaker B:Imagine going through your whole life thinking you're good only to stand up there and Jesus says, who You, Jesus.
Speaker B:I thought that I. I don't know you.
Speaker B:Depart from me.
Speaker B:You want to talk about being terrified.
Speaker B:That's it.
Speaker B:Right there.
Speaker B:Standing in front of front of Jesus.
Speaker B:The same Jesus who invited you over and over, called you, bled for you, died for you.
Speaker B:And hearing him say, I don't know you.
Speaker B:Why not?
Speaker B:Because you were imperfect?
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:Only because you were unwilling to obey him in this life.
Speaker B:And if you are unwilling to obey him here, he has no use for you there.
Speaker B:I know this is heavy.
Speaker B:Listen, Heaven's not for those who mean well.
Speaker B:Heaven is for those who said, yes, Lord, and mean it.
Speaker B:Those who didn't just attend church.
Speaker B:It's for those who became the church.
Speaker B:It's not for those who didn't just carry Bibles, they carried crosses.
Speaker B:Those who weren't just fans of Jesus, but those who became followers of Jesus and the sorting Jesus speaks of.
Speaker B:That will happen at the judgment seat.
Speaker B:Revelation confirms it.
Speaker B:Every.
Speaker B:Every soul will be separated not by denomination, not by how much scripture you have memorized, but by your responses to just one line.
Speaker B:Did you surrender your life to Jesus and obey his call for your life in this world?
Speaker B:For those who did not, there will be weeping, there will be regret, begging for one more chance, but there will be no more chances.
Speaker B:Eternal separation from God the Father, from Jesus, from the Holy Spirit, from your believing loved ones.
Speaker B:You'll be separated forever.
Speaker B:No second chances, no do overs given, just torment.
Speaker B:Not because God wanted that for you.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:But because you refused to respond when it mattered.
Speaker B:And folks, it matters right now.
Speaker B:Regardless of how you responded in the past, there's always the right now.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Jesus ends his parables with a statement of responsibility.
Speaker B:Matthew 13, verse 52.
Speaker B:Jesus says, Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who brings out his treasure what is new and what is old.
Speaker B:Basically, and Pastor Bob parlance here, he says, now that you've heard all this, you're not just informed, you're accountable.
Speaker B:You've been trained.
Speaker B:You've been shown the treasure.
Speaker B:Now it's time to bring it out, to share it, to live it, to.
Speaker B:To preach it, to walk in it, to be it.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Because the net is coming, the throne is real, the books are being written right now.
Speaker B:Angels are transcribing everything you do and everything you say.
Speaker B:Right now, listening to me, right now, they're writing down what you're saying.
Speaker B:Whether you are truly following Jesus with your life and all that you have, they're writing it down.
Speaker B:And the time to obey is not after you die.
Speaker B:It's here and now.
Speaker B:So let Me ask you one more time.
Speaker B:Are you born again?
Speaker B:Are you living for him right now?
Speaker B:Have you surrendered your future, your finances, your fears, your whole life to Jesus Christ?
Speaker B:Because this is not a game.
Speaker B:It's not theory, it's not theology class.
Speaker B:This is eternity.
Speaker B:This is the Kingdom.
Speaker B:This is your call.
Speaker B:And for some, hearing me right now, it may very well be your final call.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:So here we are at the end of message five, the Kingdom of Heaven.
Speaker B:We've walked with Jesus as he lifted veil after veil after veil, revealing to us what the kingdom looks like, what the kingdom feels like, what the kingdom demands of us.
Speaker B:We've seen its treasure.
Speaker B:We've seen its power.
Speaker B:We've seen its coming judgment.
Speaker B:And we have been warned, not by a prophet or a preacher, but by Jesus himself.
Speaker B:The King of the Kingdom has given us a warning.
Speaker B:And now you've heard it.
Speaker B:You will now have no excuse when you get to heaven.
Speaker B:Right now, right now, you have a decision to make.
Speaker B:And I know messages like this stir things deep inside of us.
Speaker B:I know that it may make us uncomfortable, even.
Speaker B:Maybe you've been in church for years, but realize right now you've never really made that kind of commitment to commit your whole life to Jesus.
Speaker B:I was like that.
Speaker B:Maybe you've heard sermons, maybe you serve faithfully, but you've given your time, you've even given your money, and you've tried to do good.
Speaker B:But if you're honest with yourself, you've never fully surrendered all of it.
Speaker B:Be honest.
Speaker B:Not to me, but to yourself.
Speaker B:Maybe you have at some point in your past, but then you've drifted away.
Speaker B:Life got busy.
Speaker B:Pain has hardened your heart.
Speaker B:Religion replaced relationship.
Speaker B:But now, hearing Jesus talk about the final judgment about the kingdom that is coming, something inside of you is stirring again, folks.
Speaker B:That's the Holy Spirit calling you home.
Speaker B:And for some listening to me right now, as I said, it may be your final call.
Speaker B:I'm not saying that just to scare you.
Speaker B:It's a reality.
Speaker B:I've had it happen in churches where I was preaching.
Speaker B:You've heard me share it before how one person who been in the church for several years was convicted but did not respond to the altar call.
Speaker B:He told his wife.
Speaker B:She's like, go up there.
Speaker B:He goes, nah, when we come back tonight, I'll go up there.
Speaker B:Because, you know, I've been here for years and you know, all these people know me and said, I'll come tonight because there won't be as many people.
Speaker B:In other words, he didn't want to Be he didn't want to feel embarrassed.
Speaker B:On the way home, the family was in a car crash and he died.
Speaker B:She told the pastor of that church this story at the funeral.
Speaker B:And then the pastor relayed it to me.
Speaker B:He had the opportunity but did not take it.
Speaker B:The Holy Spirit was pulling on his heart, knowing what was about to happen.
Speaker B:But he becomes so used to saying, not now, I'll do it later, that it was the normal thing for him to do.
Speaker B:But his later never came for all of eternity.
Speaker B:He'll be regretting that one decision.
Speaker B:Don't let that be you.
Speaker B:Let me clear.
Speaker B:This isn't about fear.
Speaker B:This is about truth.
Speaker B:And the truth is we don't know when that net will be drawn in.
Speaker B:We don't know when our time is going to be up.
Speaker B:But we do know what Jesus said in Mark, chapter 1, verse 15.
Speaker B:The time is fulfilled.
Speaker B:The kingdom of God's at hand.
Speaker B:Repent and believe the gospel.
Speaker B:Jesus wasn't trying to scare people.
Speaker B:He was trying to save them.
Speaker B:And he's still doing that today, right now with you.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:If you have never made Jesus the Lord of your life or if you've been running from his will, this is your moment.
Speaker B:Right now.
Speaker B:Right now.
Speaker B:Not to get religious, but not to join a program, but to enter the kingdom.
Speaker B:To get a chance to truly know the King and that he can truly know you.
Speaker B:To be washed, forgiven, made new by the blood that he shed for you.
Speaker B:What he did at that cross did not save you.
Speaker B:It put you in a position to be able to say yes to his calling.
Speaker B:That decision is what saves you.
Speaker B:It all comes down to one decision.
Speaker B:Regardless of how many bad decisions you've made in your life, your fruit comes down to one decision.
Speaker B:Pray this prayer with me right now.
Speaker B:Father, in the name of Jesus.
Speaker B:I thank you for your calling.
Speaker B:I thank you for Jesus.
Speaker B:Jesus, I thank you for calling me one more time.
Speaker B:And this time I say yes.
Speaker B:Yes to you.
Speaker B:Yes to your call.
Speaker B:Forgive me of my sins in the past.
Speaker B:Cleanse me, wash me, clean.
Speaker B:Created me a new man.
Speaker B:One that loves God.
Speaker B:One that loves you.
Speaker B:Help me to walk with you, to know you, Jesus.
Speaker B:And I pray all this in Jesus name.
Speaker B:Amen.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Hallelujah.
Speaker B:That's all the time we have for today.
Speaker B:Praise God.
Speaker B:Hallelujah Hopes.
Speaker B:Till next time.
Speaker B:As Pastor Bob reminds you, be blessed.
