Welcome to Freedom Through Faith and the Red Letter Crusade, where the words of Jesus take center stage.
Speaker A:Join us as we bring healing, unity and clarity to your walk with God by focusing on one thing.
Speaker A:What did Jesus say now?
Speaker A:Now let's join Pastor Robert Thibodeau for the Red Letter Crusade.
Speaker A:Because when it comes to understanding the entire Bible, his words matter.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:He is risen.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:Hello, everyone, everywhere.
Speaker A:Pastor Bob Thibodeau here.
Speaker A:Welcome to Freedom Through Faith.
Speaker A:Faith in what Jesus accomplished at that cross.
Speaker A:And today, whether they're believers or not, whether they're atheists or not, whether they're of any other religion, Muslim, whatever the case may be, the whole world recognizes today is the day Jesus rose from the dead.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:The grave is empty.
Speaker A:The tomb is empty.
Speaker A:He's not there anymore.
Speaker A:But guess what?
Speaker A:We are partakers in that blessing.
Speaker A:Praise you, Jesus, for all that you accomplished for us.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:It's gonna be a great day today.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:Let's go to the Lord with a word of prayer.
Speaker A:We'll jump right into today's Bible study.
Speaker A:Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, we come this day before your throne of grace and mercy, praising you for loving us so much.
Speaker A:You gave Jesus as the perfect sacrifice for our sin.
Speaker A:And Lord Jesus, we thank you for doing it for us.
Speaker A:And Lord, we ask now that as we discuss what happened that day, as we share this great message with the entire world through the power of the Internet, that you have provided for us in these last days to share the gospel with the world.
Speaker A:We pray that someone, somewhere this day would receive Jesus as their Savior and Father.
Speaker A:We give you all honor, glory and praise in Jesus name.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:And amen.
Speaker A:Praise the Lord.
Speaker A:We are going to have a good time today.
Speaker A:Oh, you noticed Pastor Bob's in a suit.
Speaker A:I bet you didn't even know I had a suit, did you?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:I don't use it on these broadcasts very often, except on special occasions.
Speaker A:And there is no better special occasion than celebrating the resurrection of Jesus, where he defeated everything that impedes us from being children of the most high God.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:Somebody said amen right there.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:All right, we're gonna jump right into this because this is.
Speaker A:This is not gonna be your traditional resurrection Sunday sermon.
Speaker A:I can guarantee that.
Speaker A:I've titled this.
Speaker A:He's not who you thought you knew.
Speaker A:He's always been someone new.
Speaker A:And we're gonna look at John chapter 20 and verse 11 to 17 Jesus answered, you could have no power at all against me unless it were given to you from above.
Speaker A:Therefore, he that delivered me to you, he has the greater sin.
Speaker A:And from that point forward, Pilate sought to release him.
Speaker A:But the Jews cried out, saying, if you'll let this man go, you are not Caesar's friend.
Speaker A:Whosoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.
Speaker A:Then it goes on through how Pilate delivered him to be crucified.
Speaker A:And you know, we did all that.
Speaker A:I want to just jump into this message because this is so important for today that you need to hear this.
Speaker A:Lord, help me go with this.
Speaker A:Now, how can I do that, Lord?
Speaker A:Tell you what.
Speaker A:Let me ask you something here.
Speaker A:Just let me ask you something.
Speaker A:Have you ever run into someone that you haven't seen in possibly years, and you almost didn't recognize them?
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:Maybe they lost weight.
Speaker A:Maybe they got a new hairstyle, grew a beard.
Speaker A:Maybe they looked exactly the same.
Speaker A:But yet there's something different.
Speaker A:Maybe it's the way they talked, the way they carried themselves.
Speaker A:And you pause and ask yourself, is that really them?
Speaker A:Is that really who I think it is?
Speaker A:Now, now imagine this.
Speaker A:You spent three years walking side by side with someone.
Speaker A:You heard their voice every single day.
Speaker A:You watched them perform miracles.
Speaker A:You sat around the campfire with them.
Speaker A:You laughed together.
Speaker A:You ate together.
Speaker A:You did everything together.
Speaker A:You cried together.
Speaker A:And one day, they die.
Speaker A:But just a few days later, you see him again, alive.
Speaker A:But here's the strange part.
Speaker A:You don't recognize them.
Speaker A:What?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:That's what happened on that resurrection morning to Jesus.
Speaker A:Not just once, three times.
Speaker A:Mary didn't recognize him in the garden.
Speaker A:The disciples didn't recognize him on the road.
Speaker A:Even when he walked through the walls of a locked room, the disciples thought he was a ghost.
Speaker A:It wasn't because Jesus looked completely different.
Speaker A:It's because they were still looking for the version of Jesus they used to know.
Speaker A:And today, on this special day, I want to challenge everything you think you know about Jesus.
Speaker A:Because maybe, just maybe, he's not who you thought you knew.
Speaker A:Because he's always been someone new.
Speaker A:Now, let's look at this.
Speaker A:Mary at the tomb.
Speaker A:I call this when love looks in the wrong direction.
Speaker A:Because Mary Magdalene, she didn't come to the tomb expecting the resurrection.
Speaker A:No, she came looking for a dead body.
Speaker A:Her heart was broken.
Speaker A:Her eyes were filled with tears.
Speaker A:Her mind was locked into what she had known.
Speaker A:Jesus was dead.
Speaker A:So when he stood right in front of her, she didn't even recognize him.
Speaker A:She thought he was the gardener.
Speaker A:She wasn't lacking love or anything like that.
Speaker A:She was just looking in the wrong direction.
Speaker A:Remember that song, Looking for love in all the wrong places?
Speaker A:Well, she was looking in the wrong direction because when Jesus simply said her name, Mary, that's when her eyes were open and she knew it was Him.
Speaker A:Instinctively, she reached out to hug him, just as any of us would do.
Speaker A:But Jesus said something I expected.
Speaker A:Don't touch me.
Speaker A:Don't hold on to me.
Speaker A:He wasn't pushing her away.
Speaker A:He was actually pulling her forward.
Speaker A:Pulling her forward?
Speaker A:What do you mean by that, Brother Bob?
Speaker A:How could that be?
Speaker A:What does that mean, pulling her forward?
Speaker A:Because resurrection does not invite us to return to the way things were.
Speaker A:It calls us into something brand new.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:Mary wanted to hold on to the Jesus she knew.
Speaker A:But the risen Christ was not and is not the same as the crucified Christ.
Speaker A:He had stepped into a new dimension of glory, and now he's calling her to step into it with him, into a new assignment.
Speaker A:And guess what?
Speaker A:He still does that today.
Speaker A:Many of us are clinging to a version of Jesus we remember instead of embracing who he is and who he's revealing himself to be right now.
Speaker A:But if you listen closely today, you will also hear him say your name.
Speaker A:And when you do, you'll realize he's not who you thought you knew.
Speaker A:He's always been someone new.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Let's look at the disciples on the road to Emmaus.
Speaker A:When familiar truth walks right beside you and you don't recognize it.
Speaker A:Because two of Jesus's followers were walking that road from Jerusalem, trying to make sense of everything that just transpired over the last few days.
Speaker A:They just didn't understand it.
Speaker A:The cross had crushed their hope.
Speaker A:Their Messiah, who they believed in, was dead.
Speaker A:Now they're headed home, confused, disappointed, sure, spiritually exhausted and wondering about what happened to the body.
Speaker A:And suddenly Jesus himself joined them on the road.
Speaker A:They didn't recognize him.
Speaker A:They thought he was just another traveler along the road.
Speaker A:I mean, he walked right beside them for the whole way.
Speaker A:He talked with them.
Speaker A:He even discussed scriptures with them.
Speaker A:But they didn't still see, or they didn't see that it was Him.
Speaker A:Think about it.
Speaker A:They were actually discussing him.
Speaker A:Jesus.
Speaker A:He was using scriptures to help them recognize who he really was.
Speaker A:But just their grief, where block was bleeding, their vision, the Jesus they knew, they couldn't tell.
Speaker A:He was right there with them, talking with them.
Speaker A:Why?
Speaker A:Because he wasn't showing up the way they expected him to be.
Speaker A:Their assumptions blinded them to his presence.
Speaker A:It wasn't Until a few hours later, when he sat down, blessed the bread, broke it, and suddenly their eyes and minds and understanding were open.
Speaker A:The Bible says.
Speaker A:And then, just like that, clarity, revelation, a moment of divine recognition.
Speaker A:And then he disappeared from their vision.
Speaker A:How would you feel if that happened to you?
Speaker A:That Jesus would have spent all that time with you?
Speaker A:You didn't write.
Speaker A:And the moment you write Jesus, where'd he go?
Speaker A:Think about that.
Speaker A:How would you feel?
Speaker A:Why did he leave so quickly?
Speaker A:I have so many questions for him.
Speaker A:Have you ever wondered that?
Speaker A:It's because the moment had served its purpose.
Speaker A:They didn't need to see him anymore to know him, to know he was alive.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Their hearts had already caught fire.
Speaker A:And here's what's beautiful about this.
Speaker A:They didn't stay at the table either.
Speaker A:Even though it was now evening.
Speaker A:They got up and headed back to tell the others.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:Why?
Speaker A:Because when you truly recognize Jesus is risen, who he really is, you can't stay where you are.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:He moves you from heartbreak to mission.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:And today, someone, somewhere, some of us are walking the road of disappointment, wondering where Jesus is, when, folks, the truth is he's been right there beside us the entire time.
Speaker A:I think of that picture in the story of footsteps in the sand.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:You know the one talking about where you know the.
Speaker A:The traveler is.
Speaker A:You know, he.
Speaker A:When things are tough, he turns around, looks, and there's only one set of footprints there.
Speaker A:When things are going great, there's two.
Speaker A:And then one time he's praying and says, lord, why is it when I'm going through the tough times, you're not with me?
Speaker A:I only see one fit my one set of footprints there instead of two.
Speaker A:And Jesus responds with, when you only see one set of footprints, that's when I was carrying you through the tough times.
Speaker A:They were his footprints.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:And when we're too focused on what we're going through or on what we have lost, it's hard for us to recognize what we still have.
Speaker A:But if you'll let him walk with you and just listen when he speaks, you'll come to the same conclusion they did.
Speaker A:He.
Speaker A:He's not who you thought you knew.
Speaker A:He has always been someone new.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:I'm having a good time with this message today.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:I don't know about you, I'm preaching myself happy anyway.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:That's touching your heart.
Speaker A:Put down in the comments right now.
Speaker A:Yes, Brother Bob.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Me too.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Praise the Lord.
Speaker A:You're watching this on social media, video, whatever, but let's go to now let's.
Speaker A:Let's go to the upper room.
Speaker A:Ah, you gotta love the upper room story.
Speaker A:When faith struggles to believe what's right there in front of you.
Speaker A:Because at the time these disciples got back to the others, it was late at night.
Speaker A:And they told what had happened.
Speaker A:But word spread quickly.
Speaker A:Probably early the next day, the entire group had gathered together to be told the whole story all over again.
Speaker A:And excitement was filling the room.
Speaker A:Questions abounded for sure.
Speaker A:I mean, first Mary, now these disciples.
Speaker A:I mean, they're in total confusion here, you know, and they were actually, if you read it, they were actually hiding out behind locked doors.
Speaker A:Because despite the news, they still were in fear for their lives.
Speaker A:Fear gripped them.
Speaker A:Confusion was paralyzing them.
Speaker A:They had heard rumors from the women, stories of angels, whispers of a possible resurrection.
Speaker A:But they still really couldn't believe it.
Speaker A:So they did what most of us do when we're uncertain.
Speaker A:They stayed hidden, didn't they?
Speaker A:Then suddenly, without knocking, without even opening a door, Jesus just simply appeared right in front of them.
Speaker A:Oh, he's right there, right in the middle of the room.
Speaker A:What was their reaction?
Speaker A:Revival?
Speaker A:Excitement?
Speaker A:Hip hip hooray for Jesus.
Speaker A:How about worship?
Speaker A:Joy, Even relief?
Speaker A:No, they got scared.
Speaker A:They thought he was a ghost.
Speaker A:Think about that, what they do.
Speaker A:They panicked.
Speaker A:Fear set in.
Speaker A:After everything he had taught them, after all the miracles they had personally witnessed.
Speaker A:After he told them, I'm coming back.
Speaker A:After he told them, I will rise again, don't worry about it.
Speaker A:They still couldn't wrap their little minds around what was actually happening.
Speaker A:How many of us do the same thing?
Speaker A:And Jesus said, look, it's me, myself.
Speaker A:Touch me and see.
Speaker A:That still wasn't enough.
Speaker A:He showed him his hands and his feet.
Speaker A:So what he do is it?
Speaker A:Look, give me some of that food there.
Speaker A:Give me something to eat.
Speaker A:Just to prove he was real.
Speaker A:Because ghosts don't eat.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:It's not a vision.
Speaker A:I'm not a ghost.
Speaker A:This is not a dream, boys.
Speaker A:It's me.
Speaker A:The resurrected Jesus was more real than they had ever imagined.
Speaker A:And once they saw him, understood.
Speaker A:It's really him, man.
Speaker A:They were excited.
Speaker A:They were overjoyed.
Speaker A:Then notice what had to happen.
Speaker A:First, Jesus had to meet them where in their doubt.
Speaker A:He didn't scold them.
Speaker A:He didn't yell at them.
Speaker A:He didn't slap him upside the head.
Speaker A:He didn't get mad and leave.
Speaker A:He stayed right there.
Speaker A:He proved himself to them, not to shame them because of their Unbelief, but to build their faith.
Speaker A:And that faith was unshakable from that point forward.
Speaker A:You know, this is little.
Speaker A:This one of those Brother Bob rabbit trails.
Speaker A:Now someone who believes kind of something kind of believes that.
Speaker A:Yeah, I think it's true like that.
Speaker A:And then they face pressure.
Speaker A:Sometimes they'll back off.
Speaker A:The disciples never back down.
Speaker A:Even to the point of torture, even to the point of death.
Speaker A:They refused to recant their resurrection belief.
Speaker A:They refuse you, you, you know John, you know, the beloved John.
Speaker A:We're going to dunk you in this boiling pot of oil.
Speaker A:I don't care.
Speaker A:I am not recounting my faith in Jesus.
Speaker A:Guess what?
Speaker A:The oil wouldn't boil.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:They didn't know what to do with this guy, right?
Speaker A:But all the disciples like that, they refused to re reject their claims that they had seen Jesus alive.
Speaker A:Some people will believe something as long as it's convenient.
Speaker A:But the moment persecution arises, the moment they get attacked for their faith, like, well, you know.
Speaker A:Okay, I understand, never mind.
Speaker A:Yeah, no, those disciples all died martyrs deaths, except John.
Speaker A:He died natural causes.
Speaker A:But all of them died maintaining their faith that they knew Jesus was resurrected.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:Shout Amen.
Speaker A:Somebody somewhere type Amen down the show notes or something.
Speaker A:Because Jesus still shows up like that today in our lives.
Speaker A:I mean, sometimes we lock the doors of our hearts and try to keep our faith safe, hidden, comfortable.
Speaker A:Jesus just shows up anyway, walking right through the walls if he has to and says, I'm here, it's me.
Speaker A:Hello.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:He reveals himself not to comfort our fear, but to conquer our fear.
Speaker A:Because once you truly recognize the risen Jesus, you realize, folks, something you can never forget.
Speaker A:Jesus is not who you thought you knew.
Speaker A:He has always been someone new.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Now why does this still matter in the day and time in which we live?
Speaker A:Well, okay, let's bring all this right into our world right now, right where we live.
Speaker A:And there's rotten here and now.
Speaker A:Because it's one thing, it's one thing to talk about Mary at the tomb.
Speaker A:It's another thing to talk about the disciples on the road.
Speaker A:It's another thing to talk about the, the fear filled gathering in the upper room.
Speaker A:But if we're to be honest, those scenes look a whole lot like the world we live in today.
Speaker A:Because people are confused, people are broken, people are angry.
Speaker A:Some are angry at God because they feel like he let them down somehow.
Speaker A:Some are angry at other Christians because they expected more love and less judgment.
Speaker A:Some are just angry at life itself because the Pain has been too much, the hope too little.
Speaker A:We are living today in a culture just like that.
Speaker A:Just like Mary is weeping at an empty tomb today, people are going to visit the empty tomb.
Speaker A:That's okay.
Speaker A:I mean, they might need to see it in their own eyes, but they don't realize hope is standing right in front of them right now.
Speaker A:Like the disciples on the road, many are walking away from faith, disappointed that Jesus did not meet their expectations on their timescale.
Speaker A:Just like the upper room, many have locked themselves away, paralyzed by fear, paralyzed by disappointment, experiencing spiritual fatigue.
Speaker A:But here's the good news.
Speaker A:Jesus still walks into those places.
Speaker A:He still speaks into the confusion.
Speaker A:He still shows up even behind locked doors.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:He's still saying what he said way back then.
Speaker A:Peace be with you.
Speaker A:John 20, verse 19.
Speaker A:Shalom, right?
Speaker A:Why are you so troubled?
Speaker A:Why do doubts rise in your heart?
Speaker A: Luke: Speaker A:Look at my hands.
Speaker A:Look at my feet.
Speaker A:It's me, myself.
Speaker A: Luke: Speaker A:Folks, he's not avoiding the doubt.
Speaker A:Jesus doesn't avoid doubt.
Speaker A:He confronts it.
Speaker A:He's not offended by the fear.
Speaker A:He steps right into the middle of it and in the process reveals himself.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:But here's the challenge.
Speaker A:We do have a challenge in all this.
Speaker A:Just like them, many of us are trying to hold on to a version of Jesus that fits our old expectations.
Speaker A:Some of us are holding on to a Jesus who never asked them to change.
Speaker A:Others are holding onto a Jesus who only fits into their little traditions, their denominational callings, or their comfort zones.
Speaker A:Some have reduced Jesus to a theological concept, a Sunday morning obligation.
Speaker A:Check the box.
Speaker A:Or a motivational sound bite.
Speaker A:But the resurrection Jesus, he doesn't stay in boxes.
Speaker A:He's not confined to boxes, is he?
Speaker A:He doesn't operate according to our plans.
Speaker A:He's not just the Jesus on the cross.
Speaker A:He's not just the Jesus of your past.
Speaker A:He is the living, risen son of the Most High God.
Speaker A:And he's moving today in ways we don't even recognize yet.
Speaker A:Jesus saying, behold, I'm doing a new thing.
Speaker A:And now it springs forth.
Speaker A:Do you not perceive it?
Speaker A: That's Isaiah: Speaker A:I mean, this same Jesus, folks, the one who walked out of that tomb is still showing up today in hospital rooms, on back porches, in therapy offices, in broken marriages.
Speaker A:He still shows up in the sleepless nights.
Speaker A:And if we will stop trying to recognize him only through our old lens and old way of looking at things, our hearts.
Speaker A:How can I say this, Lord, if we stop looking for him and just seek him with our hearts.
Speaker A:Listening to him, he'll call our name.
Speaker A:We'll feel our hearts burn within us.
Speaker A:We'll hear him say, touch me.
Speaker A:It's really me.
Speaker A:I'm right here with you.
Speaker A:Because the truth hasn't changed at all.
Speaker A:Hebrews 13.
Speaker A:8.
Speaker A:Jesus Christ.
Speaker A:The same yesterday, today and forever.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:What has changed?
Speaker A:The only thing that's changed is how he reveals himself.
Speaker A:And what needs to change is simply our willingness to recognize him in new ways.
Speaker A:Oh, praise God.
Speaker A:Am I going to get a sip of coffee on that one?
Speaker A:I just preach myself happy.
Speaker A:Glory to God.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:Praise God.
Speaker A:So maybe, just maybe, just maybe, if you're feeling like your prayers have hit the ceiling, if you're wondering where God is in your confusion, have you been clinging to a past, a past version of Jesus that no longer fits the questions life is asking you?
Speaker A:Maybe it's time to realize what, Mary, what the disciples that were traveling and the disciples all had to learn.
Speaker A:Everybody had to learn it.
Speaker A:Everybody still has to learn it today, at some point in their life.
Speaker A:He's not who you thought you knew.
Speaker A:He has always been someone, always, always been someone new.
Speaker A:Let's look at what we're celebrating today.
Speaker A:Resurrection Morning, a message for right now.
Speaker A:Because this morning, churches around the world are gathering to celebrate a moment that changed everything, changed it forever.
Speaker A:Because that tomb's empty.
Speaker A:Jesus is alive.
Speaker A:He's risen.
Speaker A:He's alive forevermore.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:But in the middle of all of the singing and all of the celebration, we still have to pause.
Speaker A:And we, you and I, need to be real.
Speaker A:We need to be really honest about the day and time in which we're living in right now, the rotten here and now.
Speaker A:Because for many people, this does not feel like a season of victory.
Speaker A:It feels like a season of confusion.
Speaker A:We've got economic chaos going on, political tensions, divisions at every level of society, divisions between nations, divisions in our government, divisions in our communities, divisions in our schools, and yes, even in our families.
Speaker A:And worst of all, we have severe division inside the churches.
Speaker A:We have brothers and sisters who cannot and refuse to worship together because of doctrinal differences.
Speaker A:Well, I just don't believe that's really worship.
Speaker A:We have pastors who are afraid to speak the truth because of possible political backlash.
Speaker A:Oh, brother Bob, just like you do.
Speaker A:I'd lose my job for sure.
Speaker A:We have Christians who are more loyal to their denominations than to the actual words of Jesus himself.
Speaker A:They'll say, like we insert whatever denomination you want.
Speaker A:We just don't believe that way, Brother Bob.
Speaker A:Now, in a time when the world desperately needs to see a unified body of Christ shining with hope, a time when this world needs, they absolutely need the comforting words of Jesus.
Speaker A:We're too busy arguing over who's right and forget to remember what Jesus said.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:That's why this Easter message matters now more than ever.
Speaker A:Because the story of Mary, the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, the story of the upper room, the story.
Speaker A:Those stories remind us of something that is absolutely essential.
Speaker A:Even those people who walk closely with and actually lived with Jesus, folks, even they struggled when he showed up differently than what they expected.
Speaker A:Mary mistook him for the gardener.
Speaker A:The disciples thought he was just another traveler walking with them.
Speaker A:And even after all the miracles, the upper room disciples thought he was a ghost.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Why?
Speaker A:Because they were trying to recognize the Jesus they thought they knew.
Speaker A:They were looking for a suffering savior, not a risen king.
Speaker A:They were looking for comfort, not confrontation.
Speaker A:They were looking for who he was, not who he is right now.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:And I believe many of us are still trying to do the same exact thing today.
Speaker A:We're looking for a Jesus who fits into our little box that we think he should be still stuck in.
Speaker A:A Jesus who agrees with our politics.
Speaker A:A Jesus who doesn't challenge our lifestyle, no matter what lifestyle we choose to live.
Speaker A:A Jesus who just rubber stamps our traditions.
Speaker A:A Jesus who fits our brand of church.
Speaker A:But let me tell you something clearly, and I'm saying this with love.
Speaker A:He's not who you thought you knew.
Speaker A:He's always been someone new.
Speaker A:That's not a threat, it's an invitation.
Speaker A:Jesus isn't changing his nature.
Speaker A:He's changing our nature.
Speaker A:Jesus isn't trying to change our culture.
Speaker A:He's changing our view of culture.
Speaker A:Jesus is trying to figure out, fill us with things.
Speaker A:He's revealing his fullness in us.
Speaker A:He's not abandoning his character.
Speaker A:He's fulfilling his purpose.
Speaker A:Where through us, this world, folks is groaning, groaning for the truth.
Speaker A:People today are desperate for clarity.
Speaker A:They have no vision.
Speaker A:They need vision.
Speaker A:They're searching for answers in the economy, in the government, in activism, in education.
Speaker A:And still coming up empty every single time.
Speaker A:Despite, look at it like this.
Speaker A:Despite billions, trillions of dollars being given to the poor over the years, we still have poor with us right here in this nation.
Speaker A:Despite billions of dollars being spent on education, our schools are graduating kids they can't even read at elementary school level.
Speaker A:Despite billions of dollars being spent on social programs, we still have huge divisions in our society.
Speaker A:Why?
Speaker A:I'm asking you why?
Speaker A:Politicians will tell you that's that other party's fault.
Speaker A:It's all their fault.
Speaker A:Social activists will tell you it's the racial divides in this nation.
Speaker A:Economic activists will tell you it's the haves versus the have nots.
Speaker A:But folks, only one thing is clear, very clear.
Speaker A:Let me.
Speaker A:Let me put it like this.
Speaker A:Nothing has changed, no matter how much money you throw at it.
Speaker A:Why?
Speaker A:Because it's not a financial problem.
Speaker A:It's a spiritual problem.
Speaker A:But do you know what they really, really, really, truly need?
Speaker A:I'll tell you.
Speaker A:They need to hear the voice of the one who said, peace, I leave with you, my peace I give to you.
Speaker A: John: Speaker A:In John 14:1, he said, Let not your heart be troubled.
Speaker A:Don't let it be afraid.
Speaker A:John 14:6, I am the way, the truth and the life.
Speaker A:No one comes to the Father, except through me.
Speaker A: John: Speaker A:Love one another as I have loved you.
Speaker A:Folks, we do not need more theological commentary.
Speaker A:We do not need more religious division.
Speaker A:We don't need more money being allocated to try and fix society's problems.
Speaker A:We only need one thing.
Speaker A:We need to get back to the red letter words of Jesus.
Speaker A:Because those red letter words are not mere suggestions.
Speaker A:They're not secondary to our doctrines.
Speaker A:They are not less important than the rest of this Bible.
Speaker A:In fact, his words matter more than anything else.
Speaker A:They are the foundation of everything.
Speaker A:Praise the Lord.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:Let me see where I was at here on my notes.
Speaker A:I hit the wrong button there, Praise God.
Speaker A:But I'm telling you folks, when we do that, when we can go ahead and just focus on the red letter words.
Speaker A:When we focus on the red letter words, that's all we need, right?
Speaker A:I mean, when the red letter words, folks, is Jesus speaking.
Speaker A:That's Jesus speaking to us.
Speaker A:That's Jesus who's telling us exactly what he taught the disciples.
Speaker A:Exactly.
Speaker A:There's no guessing on this, right?
Speaker A:It does not matter what you think they say.
Speaker A:They say what they say and you can't change them.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:I mean, this is not something that when.
Speaker A:How can I say this, Lord?
Speaker A:When Jesus had his eyewitnesses put into the Bible, write down everything he said.
Speaker A:It was so you and I could visualize, visualize ourselves seating, sitting right there at Jesus's feet.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:When the disciples wrote these words down and they were passed generation to generation, that was there so that we, you and I, could pray, read these words and have Jesus minister to us as if we were actually sitting there with him.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:And that's, that's where it comes, that's where it gets there, folks.
Speaker A:That's where it comes with how much time?
Speaker A:Okay, we're doing good.
Speaker A:This book, what did Jesus say?
Speaker A:This book has revolutionized my life and our ministry.
Speaker A:And I am preaching just what Jesus said.
Speaker A:I mean, you know, I'll use other portions of, you know, all that of the Bible to what, back up what Jesus said just to give you examples that the disciples used.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:I mean, when I think I have that up here, let's see, is it this one?
Speaker A:Come over here.
Speaker A:I want to put this on the screen.
Speaker A:There you go.
Speaker A:That's what Jesus.
Speaker A:That's the book right there.
Speaker A:I'm talking about Praise the Lord.
Speaker A:And you know, this book is available and you can go ahead and order this book and it will revolutionize.
Speaker A:It'll change your life.
Speaker A:It really will.
Speaker A:And when you do that, when you actually let Jesus speak to you, I mean, this is something that I can't explain it.
Speaker A:I can only say you need to experience it.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:So let me get back up here and jump back into the notes again because today.
Speaker A:Turn that off.
Speaker A:Nope, over here.
Speaker A:Turn off.
Speaker A:There we go.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:So Jesus was using scripture to minister to those he had spent all that time with, right?
Speaker A:Jesus was using that scripture, calling their names and that transformed their lives so that all the persecution they went through, they never recanted their faith.
Speaker A:It was one of these things where Jesus is still walking through doors for us today, Right?
Speaker A:I mean, Jesus, folks, he is alive forevermore.
Speaker A:So alive that he lives on the inside of us.
Speaker A:So alive that when your church preaches something that is contrary to what the red letter words say, it should raise an antenna in your ear.
Speaker A:Because that's Jesus saying, that's not what I meant.
Speaker A:I mean, think about it.
Speaker A:I mean, you have all these things going on, the social programs, you know, boys playing in girls sports and you know, all this other stuff that goes on.
Speaker A:And when a church says, yep, that's normal, that's the way it needs to be.
Speaker A:That should raise an antenna in your mind.
Speaker A:Jesus, like that's not right.
Speaker A:But you don't know that.
Speaker A:You don't know that unless you know what Jesus said, right?
Speaker A:And when you understand what Jesus said, that changes everything, right?
Speaker A:It's man, his words are final authority.
Speaker A:His words are everything.
Speaker A:His words are final authority.
Speaker A:And it does not matter what other people think.
Speaker A:It does not matter it does not matter what they think.
Speaker A:Jesus is still walking through doors today.
Speaker A:He's still meeting with the brokenhearted.
Speaker A:Tell you what, he knows their names.
Speaker A:He knows you.
Speaker A:Just like he called Mary by name.
Speaker A:He's calling you by name, too, isn't he?
Speaker A:I mean, if you're in a prison of your own making, he's still right there.
Speaker A:Right there.
Speaker A:Wherever you're at.
Speaker A:You could be in a physical prison.
Speaker A:That's okay.
Speaker A:It could be a prison in your mind.
Speaker A:That's okay, too.
Speaker A:It could be held captive by your financial situation, your job.
Speaker A:It does not matter.
Speaker A:Jesus can walk through all of those doors that are holding you back.
Speaker A:Guess what?
Speaker A:Those doors don't hold him back.
Speaker A:Not at all.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:I mean, Jesus sent.
Speaker A:When.
Speaker A:When Peter was in prison, Jesus sent an angel.
Speaker A:Just go get my boy out of there.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:I mean, what happened in the natural.
Speaker A:It looked impossible.
Speaker A:In the most secure prison in the land, from the deepest part of that prison, in the most secure cell they could put Peter in, then chained him to the wall, hands, feet, and the body chain.
Speaker A:Then they put guards right outside the cell door, then right outside the cell block, then right outside the building.
Speaker A:And then they close a huge gate and lock it and put guards there just to make sure.
Speaker A:I mean, even Peter thought, well, there's no getting out of this one.
Speaker A:I'm a goner for sure.
Speaker A:But what else was going on?
Speaker A:His friends were praying, weren't they?
Speaker A:Yeah, they were praying.
Speaker A:You know what this is in my notes here?
Speaker A:This is another one of them.
Speaker A:Rabbit trail, Brother Bob.
Speaker A:Rabbit trails.
Speaker A:But this is all Holy Spirit led.
Speaker A:Amen, I tell you.
Speaker A:Like this.
Speaker A:Where's it at, lord?
Speaker A:Thanks.
Speaker A:Acts 12.
Speaker A:Set this book aside.
Speaker A:Turn over to Acts 12.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:I believe that's where it's at.
Speaker A:Book of Acts 10, 11, 12.
Speaker A:Yep, yep, yep, right there.
Speaker A:Acts 12.
Speaker A:Praise the Lord.
Speaker A:All right, look at verse three.
Speaker A:Let's talk about Herod here.
Speaker A:Saw it.
Speaker A:Please Jews.
Speaker A:So he put Peter in jail also right when he had apprehended, put him in prison, delivering to the four quartarians of soldiers to keep him intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
Speaker A:Peter therefore kept in prison, but prayer is being made outside on not ceasing of the church to God for him, when Herod would have brought him forward.
Speaker A:The same night Peter was sleeping, two soldiers bound with two chains.
Speaker A:The keepers before the door kept the prison.
Speaker A:The angel Lord came upon him.
Speaker A:A light shined in the prison and smoke hit speeder.
Speaker A:The light shined in the prison.
Speaker A:The angel standing right there, saying, peter, Peter, he's solid asleep.
Speaker A:He doesn't have a care in the world.
Speaker A:And said the angel had to smote him, he had to kick him.
Speaker A:Get up, boy, get up quickly.
Speaker A:And his chains just fell off from his hands.
Speaker A:The angel said to him, gird yourself, bind on your sandals.
Speaker A:So he did.
Speaker A:And he said to him, cast your garment about you, follow me.
Speaker A:And he went out, followed him, didn't know it was true, which was even done by the angel.
Speaker A:He thought it was just a dream.
Speaker A:When they were past the first and then the second war, they came to the iron gate, the least of the city, which opened to them of his own accord.
Speaker A:They went out, passed on through one street, went.
Speaker A:And then the angel left him.
Speaker A:When Peter had come to himself, he's like man, this isn't a dream, this is real, right?
Speaker A:He said, lord has sent his angels, delivered me out of the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews, because they expect him to be killed.
Speaker A:The next day, when he considered this thing, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John, whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together, praying.
Speaker A:As Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to her to listen, named Rhoda.
Speaker A:And when she knew Peter's voice, she didn't open the gate for gladness, ran back inside, told how Peter was standing outside of the gate.
Speaker A:And they said there, you're nuts.
Speaker A:My brother says you're mad.
Speaker A:Today's lady, we say you're nuts, you're crazy.
Speaker A:But she insisted that it was so.
Speaker A:So I said, it must be his angel.
Speaker A:They killed him.
Speaker A:It's his angel.
Speaker A:But Peter continued knocking.
Speaker A:So they went open the door.
Speaker A:And when they saw him, they were not happy.
Speaker A:They were astonished.
Speaker A:They're like, what are you doing here, Peter?
Speaker A:But he, beckoning them with a hand to hold their peace, declared how the Lord had brought him out of the prison, said, go show these things to James, that's the brother of Jesus, and to the brethren.
Speaker A:And then he departed and went to another place.
Speaker A:And as soon as day there was no small stir among the soldiers of what had become of Peter when Herod had sought.
Speaker A:Turn two pages there.
Speaker A:When Herod had sought him and found him not, he examined the keepers and commanded they should be executed in his place.
Speaker A:Folks, that's what prayer can do.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Prayer can change things.
Speaker A:Now Peter was so resigned to the fact there was no escape, he thought he was having a dream.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Now I Have to give credit to his friends.
Speaker A:I mean, at least, at least they were praying.
Speaker A:It wasn't by faith, but at least they were praying.
Speaker A:All right, but there is no faith mixed with their prayers at all.
Speaker A:What do you mean by that, Brother Bob?
Speaker A:Well, just look at it.
Speaker A:His friends were holding a prayer meeting asking Jesus to do what?
Speaker A:Get Peter out of prison.
Speaker A:Deliver him in lower.
Speaker A:Find some way of getting people out of that Peter out of that jail and you'd be right.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:Can you visualize that?
Speaker A:All right, but just like so many gatherings today in churches and groups, etc.
Speaker A:They go through all emotions, but they don't really mix faith with their prayers.
Speaker A:They're just saying the right things, doing the right things, but no faith is behind it.
Speaker A:And when one of their prayers actually gets answered, they're shocked.
Speaker A:They're surprised.
Speaker A:Wow, it worked.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:It worked.
Speaker A:You know, I've had this happen to me several times.
Speaker A:I'd pray for someone's healing and they got healed.
Speaker A:They go to church, say Jesus healed me.
Speaker A:Hallelujah.
Speaker A:Oh, that's good, that's good.
Speaker A:How'd you get healed?
Speaker A:I asked Brother Bob to pray for me.
Speaker A:He prayed and a couple days later I was completely healed.
Speaker A:Went to the doctor, he said, I'm healed.
Speaker A:All that's gone well now.
Speaker A:Give God praise.
Speaker A:We just don't believe though that, you know, that miraculous healing stuff is for today.
Speaker A:I've experienced that.
Speaker A:I've also had the blessed privilege of being able to pray.
Speaker A:Many people over the years, people that were in hospice for cancer, cancer started what they call went into remission.
Speaker A:They lived another 18 months.
Speaker A:Had one person, my son in law's father, construction accident, severed his thyroid artery, cut through his vocal cords.
Speaker A:Wasn't looking good.
Speaker A:And I just happened to be in that area, this was down central Texas.
Speaker A:I was up in Dallas, Fort Worth area, holding a meeting and word came.
Speaker A:Okay, keep me posted.
Speaker A:Doing to me.
Speaker A:I was supposed to be in San Antonio the next day.
Speaker A:And as our little meeting there finished, Holy Spirit said, go down.
Speaker A:It was down in Temple Texas.
Speaker A:Said, go down to Temple Texas, lay your hands on them.
Speaker A:I'll raise them up.
Speaker A:Said, Lord, I mean that's a two and a half hour drive from where I was at.
Speaker A:And I had to go back two and a half hours in order to catch the flight to San Antonio to preach the next morning in church.
Speaker A:And I said, lord, that's a long drive.
Speaker A:Go down there, lay hands on them, I'll raise them up.
Speaker A:Told my wife, I said, we're going down.
Speaker A:Lord said, we're gonna lay hands on him.
Speaker A:He'd raise them up.
Speaker A:She said, okay, so now two are in agreement.
Speaker A:We went down.
Speaker A:When I got there, they had just brought him out of recovery.
Speaker A:He'd been in seven hours of surgery just to stop the artery from bleeding.
Speaker A:I got up there, they just brought him up to the room about 20 minutes before.
Speaker A:He's all packed in.
Speaker A:They said he'll sleep all night long.
Speaker A:He's got so much, you know, stuff in it.
Speaker A:And his son was telling me all this.
Speaker A:And so, yeah, they said he'd probably never speak again.
Speaker A:He's probably looking at at least seven to 10 surgeries just to try and repair stuff, but severed his vocal cords.
Speaker A:He probably won't ever speak again.
Speaker A:I said, well, I'm not here to talk.
Speaker A:I'm here to pray.
Speaker A:So I went in.
Speaker A:His name's Mike.
Speaker A:I walked in and said, mike, in the name of Jesus, I know you hear me.
Speaker A:I command you to open your eyes and look at me.
Speaker A:And those eyes popped open.
Speaker A:And his, his eyes, like.
Speaker A:That's what he looked like.
Speaker A:He's like.
Speaker A:Because he had no idea I was even in state, let alone standing there next to him.
Speaker A:And I said, lord told me to come here to lay hands on you and pray.
Speaker A:And he'd raise you up and you'd walk out of here.
Speaker A:And that's what I believe.
Speaker A:I said, now you're gonna hear a lot of, you know, he couldn't talk.
Speaker A:He had all this stuff in him.
Speaker A:So you're gonna hear a lot of negative comments about all the stuff's going on.
Speaker A:What I need you to do is you just say under your breath, every time they speak negatively like that, you just say, by his stripes, I am healed.
Speaker A:Can you do that, Blake?
Speaker A:Once yes.
Speaker A:Two for no, blinked yes.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:So we prayed.
Speaker A:So, all right, I'm looking forward to the report.
Speaker A:I turn around, walked out.
Speaker A:I talked to his brother out there, and we're looking through the window and his eyes flutter off.
Speaker A:He's back asleep again.
Speaker A:That was on Saturday.
Speaker A:Saturday evening, Sunday I went down, preached, flew home.
Speaker A:My son in law flew down Monday, he got there Tuesday because it's Monday night after his work.
Speaker A:He got there Tuesday.
Speaker A:His dad is up and walking the hallways talking like this.
Speaker A:But at least he was talking, right?
Speaker A:They discharged him Wednesday and sent him home.
Speaker A:To this day, he's never had another surgery.
Speaker A:And his voice is just like it was before, completely restored as whole.
Speaker A:You see the scar?
Speaker A:That was all.
Speaker A:That's all Is left, right?
Speaker A:That's a miraculous healing, but it's one that was brought about by faith.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:My granddaughter, you know, we went into that before.
Speaker A:I don't have time to get into it today, but I'm telling you folks, we prayed for her.
Speaker A:They were recommending the other option.
Speaker A:We prayed.
Speaker A:Two days later they went back for another sonogram.
Speaker A:Said it looked like a completely different baby in that womb.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Faith works.
Speaker A:Faith works.
Speaker A:And I can't emphasize that enough.
Speaker A:I mean, when Peter, when he realized he was free, he went directly to his friend's house and started pounding on the door, let me in.
Speaker A:This was their answer to their prayer meeting.
Speaker A:It was the purpose.
Speaker A:They were gathered together in that house to pray for Peter, right?
Speaker A:Peter stands outside knocking roll to the servant girl, goes to see who's there and Peter says, hey, it's me.
Speaker A:She's so shocked she forgets to let Peter inside.
Speaker A:She runs back into the house and telling everybody, hey, Peter's outside just like you've been praying for.
Speaker A:But what happens?
Speaker A:They don't believe it here.
Speaker A:Nah, has to be his ghost.
Speaker A:I mean, come on, what kind of faith is that?
Speaker A:But yet we read about it in the Bible.
Speaker A:I'll tell you what kind Jesus said in John 14, verse 13 and 14, Whatsoever you ask in my name, believing you will receive, I'll grant it.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:That's probably one of those prayers, prayer promises that they were standing on too.
Speaker A:They didn't have the New Testament back then, folks.
Speaker A:They were living the New Testament one day at a time.
Speaker A:They couldn't say, well, now we go over here to John chapter four.
Speaker A:They didn't have that.
Speaker A:They only had what they remembered Jesus saying.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:We're blessed to have these red letter words.
Speaker A:They didn't have it.
Speaker A:But what would have been one of the promises Jesus gave them that they would have missed standing on?
Speaker A:I believe that's one of them.
Speaker A:So when Jesus answered their prayer miraculously, they refused to believe.
Speaker A:How do we get off of that rabbit trail?
Speaker A:Go praise God.
Speaker A:Oh, man.
Speaker A:Anyway, he's still walking with the brokenhearted today.
Speaker A:He's still calling them by name.
Speaker A:He's still walking through doors, locked doors, the locked doors of our heart and minds.
Speaker A:That's how we get sent down those rabbit trails.
Speaker A:Oh, he's still speaking the same words to his church today, doesn't he?
Speaker A:He says, my peace be with you.
Speaker A:Now you go and make disciples and follow me.
Speaker A:That's his command to us today.
Speaker A:It has not changed, not one bit.
Speaker A:This Resurrection Morning.
Speaker A:The invitation is simple.
Speaker A:Let go of the Jesus you thought you knew.
Speaker A:Embrace the one who's calling you by name.
Speaker A:Listen to his voice, obey his words.
Speaker A:Let's work together on this through the red letter words of Jesus to bring unity and clarity back to the church.
Speaker A:Because if we'll do that, the world won't just hear about the resurrection.
Speaker A:They'll see it.
Speaker A:They'll see him in us.
Speaker A:Remember, he's not who you thought you knew.
Speaker A:He has always been someone new.
Speaker A:If you would like to receive Jesus as your personal savior right now, not the Jesus who saved your grandma or your Uncle Joe or your next door neighbor, yes, Jesus did save them, but that doesn't do you any good at all.
Speaker A:You cannot be saved by the salvation offered to your relative or friends or pastor.
Speaker A:You can only be saved by personally answering the knock on the door of your heart.
Speaker A:And if you sense through this message, through this time of year, through it all, whatever you're going through right now, if you sense Jesus calling your name, it's really him.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Now that describes you.
Speaker A:Just pray this short prayer with me right now.
Speaker A:Let's unlock that door to your heart so he can come in.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Will you do that?
Speaker A:Will you pray that with me right now?
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Let's pray.
Speaker A:Heavenly Father, in Jesus name, I come this day before your throne of grace and of mercy that I may obtain mercy and find grace that helps in my time of need.
Speaker A:Lord Jesus, as the whole world recognizes this day.
Speaker A:The reason for this day is because that tomb is empty.
Speaker A:You left the tomb, you walked out of that tomb.
Speaker A:You are alive forevermore.
Speaker A:And you're offering me that life to be with you.
Speaker A:Lord, I ask you, come into my heart.
Speaker A:Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, right now.
Speaker A:Fill me with your presence and with your Holy Spirit.
Speaker A:I pray, Lord Jesus, for the forgiveness of my sins.
Speaker A:And I receive the gift of everlasting life forevermore with you and our Heavenly Father.
Speaker A:And to you, sir, I vow to serve you every day the rest of my life.
Speaker A:And I give you honor, glory and praise.
Speaker A:Father, I give you honor, glory and praise.
Speaker A:Holy Spirit, I ask you to come and lead and guide and fill me with your presence so that I can serve the most High God forevermore.
Speaker A:And I pray all this in Jesus name.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:And Amen.
Speaker A:If you pray that prayer, email me at brother bob tfm.org because I want to rejoice with you.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Now I want to ask you for a very special, special resurrection gift offering.
Speaker A:Very special offering.

Speaker A:In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Speaker A:In the beginning, Jesus was with him this whole time.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Praise God.
